China Mystery Tour One - - First Stop Chengde
Chengde was the furthest northwards I had ever traveled in China, and there I discovered that there are some Chinese people who are taller than me. The Bell Boy in our Chengde hotel was at least nine inches taller, and when I mentioned his height to him, he replied, "You want to see my colleague, he's even taller !"
The "China Mystery Tours" sounds very much like a travel agency ! Perhaps it is one, but with a difference, because on this tour you will be whisked around the country just as if you had your own "Time Machine". Of course, it is a Mystery Tour, so you will have no hint as to your next destination.

Chengde was the Summer Resort of the Emperors, to escape the heat of the capital. At the time of our visit to Chengde, it was Winter with ice on the Chenghu Lake, in which the Tower Of Misty Rain is reflected.
For Zhong, coming from Longzhou in the hotter southern region of the country, it was his first experience of frozen surface water.

The Summer Resort in Chengde covers a vast area, and what better way is there to visit the gardens, pavilions, causeways and bridges, than riding in a Dragon Bus ?
We resisted the temptation and walked through the Chengde forest to the Chenghu lake, passing upturned rowing boats lined up on the banks for the winter.
