Jinghong in Xishuangbanna where ancient and modern lifestyles are clearly evident, and stilted wooden houses are neighbours to concrete dwellings. Part of Chinese Province of Yunnan, like a different country, diverse and mysterious.

Flying from Kunming, our plane descended to make its approach to the airport, and we had an aerial view of lush green mountains contoured with rows of tea bushes.
There were stalls selling local handicrafts, mainly for tourists, but also local stalls selling their farm produce with pineapples as big as your head.

In the famous botanical gardens grew trees with bark as hard as stone. A cow tethered outside a Buddhist monastery plaintively called to its masters for attention.
