China Attractions mean different things to different people. China attractions can be the larger cities and Chinese monuments or China Attractions can be found in the smaller towns and villages, away from the beaten track.
The China attractions which have drawn me back to the Country, year after year, have been meeting friends and getting new experiences, and there were plenty to enjoy on my visit in 1990. The lifestyles of the people in the remoter parts may be different to your own, but you will always be made to feel welcome.
Zhong first met me in Beijing, then we went to Guilin and Nanning, before taking a five hour journey by bus to his home town of Longzhou. On a day when the mid-day sun cast very little shadow, we climbed 100's of steps to get to a cave alongside the Little Wall of Longzhou, in which there were small Buddhist altars. The families of Longzhou visit this cave during the Chinese New Year Festival, to pay respects to their Ancestors. Learning new customs becomes part of the China Attractions for the writer.
There was a good view from the Little Wall, of the river with its Hydro Electric Generator and weir, and in the distance the smoking chimneys of a factory in the town. On one day in the streets of the town, I saw a young girl eating an ice-lolly whilst going on an errand with her shoulder pole and panniers. She passed longan berries which had been laid out on the street to dry, in the fierce heat of the day.
