The powerful buffalo knows its master. The model makers in China are craftsmen or craftswomen, in their own right, as can be seen by this set of buffalo. The model of a farmer on the back of one of them, is huge compared to some which are no taller than your finger nail.

What is your name ? Which of the 12 animals in the Chinese Calendar is your birth sign ? With the answers from Trung to these two questions, the Tianjin artist combined the information on a wall scroll. It all looked very simple, but the end result was a wonderful example of Chinese calligraphy.

Despite her obvious age, this Chinese grandma was attending to her stall of bundles of joss sticks. From time to time, passers-by would stop to chat with her, and no doubt exchange a little local gossip. From her appearance you could tell that she was well cared for and she must have enjoyed her useful work.

The Idolized Chinese Tea Pot
There is something about a Chinese tea pot that makes the shape and style almost a collector's item, as far as the Chinese people are concerned. Amongst those given to me during my travels, are a set similar to these at Tianjin; a set in lacquered wood, a set carved out of stone and one in painted porcelain. All too precious to use !
