Chinese Dragon Provides Entertainment In Park And A Prediction At A Wedding

The Chinese dragon, even though a mystical beast, is a well established part of Chinese culture, so it is not surprising to find that in Beijing, the Chinese Dragon has a park of its own. The Chinese New Year celebrations would not be complete without its Dragon. At Chinese weddings, two decorated candles are lit, one of the Phoenix (the bride) and one of the Chinese Dragon (the groom). If they both don't burn out completely, it is considered a bad omen.

The lake at the Chinese Dragon Park can be enjoyed in a rowing boat, or for the less energetic, by a ride in a Chinese Dragon Boat. We did neither, just strolled around part of the lake, so that we could walk over the moon bridge. In Chengde you can take a ride around the park at the Dahongtai Palace by Dragon Bus !

Chinese Dragon Park Gallery Twists And Turns

At the entrance to the park, black dragons creep along the wall, but inside the park a twisting gallery has golden Chinese Dragons coiling around the pillars. In my opinion, a visit to Longtan Park is worthwhile if only to see this beautiful example of Chinese craftsmanship. The gallery at the Summer Palace is much longer and of more historical importance, but I think the Longtan galley is more attractive.
