Vietnamese People Free To Cross Border River To Trade In Chinese Market

The Chinese border town of Xuikou with no Passport Controls nor Customs And Excise Officials, at least as far as the Vietnamese people were concerned, who freely crossed the border river to trade in the local market. Their mountain berries and white root vegetables were much sort after by the Chinese people.

An old Vietnamese lady hobbled down the track to the river and called for the Chinese ferryman who hauled himself across by means of ropes slung between the banks. There was quite a number of Vietnamese people in the Chinese market; men, women, children and even Vietnamese soldiers, the soldiers with their distinctive helmets. Chinese people haggle with Vietnamese woman in border town market over price of mountain berries. White root vegetable having texture of radish, looks like garlic but tastes fresh and juicy. This root vegetable was at least dried so any unsold on the day could be offered at other markets in China or Vietnam; green vegetables are hard to sell unless they look crispy and fresh. Fat pork meat on stall in Xuikou border town market more expensive than lean meat. Fat rendered down for cooking Chinese food.

| A Vietnamese Wedding with ancient customs western style. Ceremonies at the home of the bride followed by registration of the marriage at "la mairie de Creney-pres-Troyes" then a service at the catholic church, "Pont Sainte Marie". In the evening a party was held at the Community Hall to celebrate the happy event.
