Palm trees in The Green City Nanning China, with head of leaves on bare trunks.![]() City Park With Palm Trees And Fountains In Nanning, China
Green City Park with tropical trees in Nanning China. The bare trunks of the trees that could well have been coconut palms, looked and felt like concrete. These palm trees reminded us of a visit to the Botanical Gardens in Xishuangbanna when our guide suggested we rap the bark of the palm trees with our knuckles; the bark was like iron! The coconut palm trees shed their leaves as they grow, to leave a reasonably smooth trunk, but whether the palm trees in the Nanning Park were coconut palms, is unknown. Perhaps such trees would not be grown in public places, for if a ripe conconut in its husk was to fall from such a height, any person below would be in serious risk of injury!
''''' Coconut Palms The Coconut Palm (Cocos nucifera) is a member of the Family Arecaceae (palm family). It is the only species in the genus Cocos, and is a large palm, growing to 30 m tall, with pinnate leaves 4-6 m long, pinnae 60-90 cm long; old leaves break away cleanly leaving the trunk smooth. The term coconut refers to the fruit of the coconut palm. The coconut palm is grown throughout the tropical world, for decoration as well as for its many culinary and non-culinary uses; virtually every part of the coconut palm has some human use.
