Modern buildings in Western style architecture dominate Guangzhou cityscape.
Guangzhou was yet another city in China where the building of tower blocks for offices and high rise apartment blocks, had been built using westernstyle architecture. Looking through the window of our hotel in Guangzhou, there seemed to be very little evidence that we were in fact in China. One tower block close to the hotel did have a large sign at the top of the front face, showing Chinese Characters, but there seemed to be no traditional Chinese features incorporated into its architecture.
A vast amount of building work was seen during our travels through the city of Guangzhou, and through other cities and towns in China, now racing ahead in its development, and establishing its commercial position in the world. New factories need to be built, new office blocks need to be built, and new apartments to house the increasing number of Chinese people who are in a position to purchase or rent modern living quarters with modern facilities.
