Pictures From A Tour Of China; A Diverse And Fascinating Country
|
My friend said, 'Lets travel to China this year!', and of course it was a suggestion soon to become a reality. Our visits to the China Town in London, and the China Town in Manchester had always been exciting, but to visit a China Town in the country itself, should satisfy anyone's private dreams. We visited local travel agents to find out what China tours they had to offer and to ask whether any such travel would present any problems. The year was 1987 when travel to China was not as trouble-free as it is today, twenty years later! The details of the China tours given to us by the travel agents varied greatly, in the number of days involved and the price. In the end we decided to choose one of the China tours on offer by a Tour Company based in Hong Kong. It would be for thirty days and include visits to most of the places of interest in China, at the time open to foreign tourists. It would be the first time for us to travel to China from the UK.
There was an early morning start for the flight from London Gatwick to Hong Kong, so we travelled down to London the day before, and spent the night in the nearest hotel to the airport, to make sure we did not miss our flight. When we stepped out of the 'plane at Kai Tak Airport, it was like walking into a sauna, the heat and humidity was quite an experience. The following morning we left Hong Kong for the flight to the China Town of Guilin, there to be met by a China National Tour guide, who remained with us throughout the China tour. Our travels in China had begun!
What would you expect to see on the first of your China tours? If your China tour started in Beijing, the China capital, it would undoubtedly include a visit to the Great Wall at Badaling or Mutianyu. You would be taken to other places of interest during your tour of China, for example, to see the Chinese soldiers on guard duty at Tiananmen Square protecting the National Flag and the Monuments. The next stop on your tour of China might be Xian to see the Hua Qing Hot Springs with its beautiful gardens and lakes, and certainly the China tour would include the Terra Cotta Warriors. From Xian, the next stop on your tour of China might be to see the Buddha Rock Carvings at Baoding Hill, Dazu, or perhaps on to see the Karst Mountains of Guilin and a cruise down the Li River to Yangshuo.

CHINESE PLACES VISITED DURING TOUR OF CHINA.

Where would you expect to visit on your second tour of China, or your third tour of China, or all the other China tours you might want to make after having a taste of what this diverse country has to offer. Perhaps a walk through the Stone Forest near Kunming to be escorted by a guide from the Sani tribes people. During your next tour of China you might want to venture to the Chinese border town of Xuikou where the Chinese people and the Vietnamese people freely trade with each other. What about including a visit to the Shaolin Temple in Henan Province to watch Kung Fu students doing their exercises? There are many variations of a tour of China which you can fashion to meet your own tastes, to enjoy and to remember.
